Wind to Power CWS

Omaha is working to be a little greener this summer.

The OPPD and Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority, which operates TD Ameritrade Park, have said they are going to be purchasing renewable energy certificates from the Omaha Public Power District to power the 11-day College World Series.

These certificates are for energy generated by renewable means, in this case wind collected from a wind farm in Petersburg, Nebraska. It is unclear how much this will cost but the expected electrical output for the CWS is around 350 megawatt-hours, which is enough to power 25 homes for a year.

The OPPD is on record as hoping to have 33 percent of the city’s electricity coming from renewable means by 2017.
